Our Story

One day, I saw my colleague casually placing a tea bag in her cup. And that’s when the inspiration came. I can pre-open my pu-er tea cake and place the tea leaves into little sachets. And this could be an adaptation for time consuming kung-fu pu-er tea culture to get into this fast-paced metropolitan.

 

After many sleepless nights, I’ve decided that I have to create my own pu-er brand even though my friends told me to be realistic on cost and time. It is an honor for me to be able to introduce Yunnan Pu’er tea to people here in Hong Kong. PU’ER TEA is a story from harvesting, steaming, oxidizing, drying and finally brewing. The waiting time is the key to perfection. Just like humans, people who are dedicated to doing what they want would finally mature, gain flavors, and after years, they become what they want to be.

 

I hope that in the midst of all your troubles and frustrations, you still want to have a sip of tea, celebrating life for all its minutiaes, complexities, and miracles, enjoying an easy, peaceful moment in this restless modern city. 

One of the most memorable moments of my daily life as a kid is everyday after school, I would pour hot water into my grandpa’s nice little purple clay teapot, carry the tea with my little hands while minding the uneven flooring of the old house, and walk carefully into my grandpa’s room, with his favorite tea.

 

As the classic, full-bodied aroma arises, he would speak softly to me,

“My love! You are home!”

 

I still remember the moment when my cousin and I spent our red pocket money on this most expensive purple clay teapot in the department store in our neighborhood. The teapot stayed with my grandpa for 20 years, and somewhere along these lines, I became a tea lover like him.

 

Pu’er brings me a sense of peace and tranquility. These small, shriveled leaves are a part of my childhood. The taste and the aroma of tea always reminds me of those sweet, reminiscent days in Yunnan.

 

Even though I left Yunnan for work after I grew up, pu’er is still essential to me in Hong Kong. Something is different though. One day, when I was sipping my cup of pu’er in a tea house , a weird bitterness spread across my tongue. It was the moment that I knew I had to bring the tea culture of my home town to this city. The rich flavor packed in the tea cake, the smooth texture of each sip, they are the essence of pu’er and those are irreplaceable. I tried to introduce pu’er to this sleepless city in many different ways, and I failed hard. In a city that values efficiency over everything, how could I get these busy people here to spend hours on brewing a single cup of tea while much easier options are readily available?

小時候,外公每天都會手捧一個小小的紫砂茶壺,在屋子裡走來走去,他是位愛茶之人。每天放學回外婆家,第一件事就是放下書包,拿起水壺,往外公紫砂壺裡加水,給他端上一壺熱騰騰的茶。他總是笑咪咪地一隻手接過茶壺,一隻手伸過來拉住我,說:

 

「我的小寶快過來,放學回來啦!」

 

外公手裡的那個紫砂茶壺,一用就是二十年,是我和表姐用存下來的壓歲錢,跑去百貨商店,挑選當時最貴的一個送給他。外公喝了一輩子的茶,而我,也從小跟隨他喝茶,直到現在。

 

茶,於我而言,柔和甘甜,徬彿童年記憶,同時它醇厚悠揚、富有層次,像是一種人生境界。而眾多茶中的普洱熟茶,就是我的最愛,它把「熟」的「柔、和、醇」淋灕盡致地表現出來。

 

幾年前的一天,我與朋友相約去香港茶樓飲茶,照舊點了普洱茶,喝著喝著就發現,由於茶葉浸泡太久,茶湯宛如中藥一般,味濃到苦澀無比。於是,只好加一半白開水,沖淡茶湯來喝。當時我想,如果有機會,一定要帶著自己平時在家愛喝的陳年普洱茶餅來,沖功夫茶給大家一嚐,原來,一泡陳年普洱熟茶口感,是如此的美好!無奈,功夫茶需要諸多茶具才能實現,加上陳年普洱茶多為餅或磚的形狀,帶出來實在很不方便,很快便放棄了。

由於工作關係,我常常穿梭於香港的大街小巷。在國際化、快節奏的城市中,大家辦事、吃飯、走路、說話、甚至連呼吸,都講求「效率」。你可以想像日出直至夜深,在公司、餐館甚至回到家後的人們,都是怎樣一種生活狀態。所以,對於大部分人來說,若是能夠在任何時候、任何地方喝到一杯有益、健康又好喝的茶,細品它的味道與層次,何等奢侈!

終於有一天,我坐在辦公室,看到一群同事喝著茶包泡出來的英式茶,突然有了靈感!我想讓更多人認識中國普洱茶,我希望有一天,中國普洱茶不再局限於某一片土地或國家。它有太多寶貴的價值,卻一直沒有被人們看見。

 

而我怎樣才能實現這一想法?也許我可以改變普洱茶餅的形態,將它們放進茶包裏?如此一來就可以讓人們隨時隨地,都能喝到一杯好茶。可是,身邊的朋友都勸我考慮清楚,這麼做的話,不僅茶葉本身的成本高,自己也要花費很多時間和精力,投入到製作工藝上。

 

思前想後,我仍然覺得無論多困難也要把這個「茶之夢想」圓了。今天,在你面前這個,看似很普通的普洱茶包,它承載了近二十年的成熟歷程,它經歷過許多故事,飄洋過海才來到你的面前。

 

它希望能在繁忙到無法喘息的生活中,為你帶來一絲片刻的寧靜與美好,因為它是獨一無二的,來自雲南最原始的普洱老茶樹,出自最有溫度的茶人。
